According to research, stress is caused by many different things, and can lead to many different types of illnesses and diseases. However, the best way fight stress is by "identifying the sources of stress in your life and finding ways to avoid them or reduce their impact." Your body will prioritize resources to meet specific demands of stress. In fight or flight, your body prepares to do battle or run away. Either of these actions will require fuel - and right now!&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Where do you get that fuel? From organs you don't need at that moment to survive.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;So, if you are being chased by a lion, you don't need digestion. Stress will take nutrients from digestion as fuel to meet this particular crisis. The same is true for other organs and systems: Stress will literally rob nutrients from your reproductive system, your bones, and aspects of your immune system, your nervous system and more - all in an attempt to survive.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Now, assuming you survive the stress, are the nutrients returned to those systems? No, not at first. It seems that forgetfulness increases with age. This is partially because the damage to our brain accumulates over time. "Brain shrinkage" from stress and nutrient deficiencies, plus brain trauma from injuries and toxicity contribute to memory loss, inability to concentrate and even Alzheimer's disease. New research on brain erosion suggests that those experiencing significant stress may experience volume loss (brain shrinkage) as early as age 30.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Some of the rapid aging of our brain and body is caused by nutrient deficiency. It is much harder to get the nutrients from our food as we did in the past.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Healthy brain, healthy body&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt; We have to remember that every cell in our brain and body has a pre-programmed life span. I believe it's the drug that limits the body's natural ability to use the nutrients it receives from the food we eat, to keep the body functioning at a high rate. This leads us to another side effect of taking statins, neuropathy.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;"A famous Danish study of neuropathy as a side effect to statin use concluded that an individual who is a long-term user of statin drugs has anywhere from 4 to 14 times greater risk of developing peripheral neuropathy than a person who does not take statin drugs. Typically, long-term use of statins is defined as 2 years or more but neuropathy can occur even after just a few days of use in a susceptible individual." [2]&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;One of the reasons for neuropathy side effects may be because statins deplete Coenzyme Q-10 and accessory nutrients. Nutrients, as we may have learned in our health classes, are important to build healthy cells, muscles, and bones. "Studies supporting the efficacy of coenzyme Q10 appear most promising for neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease and certain encephalomyopathies for which coenzyme Q10 has gained orphan drug status." However, "some research suggests that statin drugs, or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, a class of drugs used to lower cholesterol, may interfere with the body's production of CoQ10." [5]&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;There is plenty of information available on the side effects of statins, and other man-made drugs. All you have to due is search Google. In so doing, always consider the source from where your information is found. It also showed that multivitamins and vitamin E were not linked to an increase in cancer deaths, and that vitamins E and C actually were associated with small decreases in the risk of overall mortality.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The researchers based their findings on questionnaires that more than 77,000 Washington State residents between the ages of 50 and 76 completed. The results were correlated with 10-year use of multivitamins and vitamins C and E, and with death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Roughly 35 percent of the U.S. adult population takes multivitamins regularly, according to a recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Are YOU wasting money on worthless vitamins? Everyone needs vitamins, which are critical for the body. I think we can all agree with that statement. Vitamins are essential to build healthy bones, and muscles. Vitamins are essential to keep the body's cells healthy.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;"For most people, the micronutrients we get from foods usually are adequate to prevent vitamin deficiency, which is rare in the United States. Although I don't currently have scientific evidence to back up what's in this article, I do believe that there are some very important statements that you should read regarding vitamins and minerals.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Most individuals, especially as we age, require more nutrients than the diet supplies. Unfortunately, few of us eat the recommended 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables/day. Scientific evidence continues to support the fact that vitamin deficiencies are more common than previously thought.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;It has been estimated that at least 50 human genetic diseases are caused by specific errors in the DNA blueprint. However, it's possible to eliminate these diseases by taking vitamins in excess of the recommended daily requirements.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Enzymes are the work horses of the body in that they function to facilitate biochemical reactions necessary for activities such as muscle contraction, wound healing, digestion of food, metabolism of carbohydrate, fat and protein, and virtually all the numerous chemical reactions necessary for growth and vitality.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The body manufactures approximately 4,000 different enzymes, and 22% of them require a helper molecule, a coenzyme, to carry out their activity. The relatively tiny B vitamin fits snugly into a specific site on the enzyme, much like a ball in a catcher's mitt. This interaction between enzyme and vitamin must be a near perfect fit for the enzyme to be active. Once this reaction is complete, the enzyme, now known as a holoenzyme, can perform work for the cell.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Vitamins must fit tightly in the pocket of the enzyme for full activity. If an enzyme is produced from a gene containing a genetic error (especially in the formation of the vitamin pocket), the error will most likely affect the ability of the enzyme to bind with the vitamin. This will result in reduced enzyme activity, because the vitamin will not be properly fitted to the enzyme.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Enzymologists working in a laboratory have demonstrated a method to force the vitamin into a pocket of an enzyme with low binding affinity. The technique involves raising the concentration of the vitamin, thereby increasing the chance of a productive interaction between the vitamin and its binding site (pocket) on the enzyme. This is precisely what is believed to occur in some of the 50 or so known genetic diseases that are corrected or improved by ingestion of megadoses of vitamins.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The high doses essentially force the imperfect pocket to pop into the vitamin-binding conformation, thereby creating the active holoenzyme. Other genetic errors can also interfere with the transport of the vitamin into the cell.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;For example, a protein known as intrinsic factor is produced by the stomach and functions as a vehicle to carry vitamin B-12 from the intestine into the plasma. A defect in this factor will also produce a B-12 deficiency, which can be corrected by B-12 injections or high doses of sublingual B-12, both of which by-pass the intrinsic factor block.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Since many vitamins have carrier proteins, this type of error is potentially more common than presently realized. Furthermore, stomach acidity is important in vitamin absorption and it is known that some individuals (more common in the elderly) have low vitamin absorption due to abnormal stomach acidity, which again may be corrected by high-dose vitamin therapy.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Vitamins may also serve a role in protecting enzymes from free radical attack. Enzymes are longer-lived when they are in the company of substances they normally work with or bind to, such as the vitamins. The enzyme-bound vitamin affords a shield from free radical attack, as well as promoting a more compact, stable enzyme structure.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Although the need for &lt;a href="http://nutrition-vitamins-for-you.blogspot.com"&gt;vitamins and minerals&lt;/a&gt; is widely recognized, most people don't bother to take supplements that would ensure adequate vitamin intake. A national survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention produced data indicating that 60% of the U.S. population had not taken at least 1 vitamin or mineral in the past month.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;As scientists continue to gather information from their laboratory testing, you can be assured that individuals will embrace the truth of their results, and turn to supplements to improve their health. Suddenly, doctors started to accept the unproved notion that this applied to all antioxidants and that taking any supplements or other nutrients would interfere with treatment," states Dr. Northrup.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;According to the study, "non-prescription antioxidants and other nutrients actually enhance the ability of these modalities to kill cancer cells.
